Message From MD, October – 2023
01 October 2023
Dear Friends,
As we find ourselves at the culmination of the first half of this fiscal year, I am filled with immense gratitude for the dedication and relentless efforts exhibited by each member of our team. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all of you for your unwavering patience during our organisational restructuring and the continuous progress of our expansion plans. Your contributions, individually and collectively, have been invaluable to the well-being of our organisation.
I am elated to observe that you all display discipline and determination in the face of the challenges and noise that often accompany such transformative periods. Now, as we bask in the smooth operations we have achieved, I have full confidence that you will continue to exhibit the same level of patience and dedication. Such steadfast commitment is essential for the continued prosperity of our company. Your willingness to embrace every challenge is truly commendable, and I encourage you to persist in your pursuit of excellence every day.
On another note, as many of you are aware, Chinese President Xi Jinping officially inaugurated the Asian Games on 23rd September, where over 12,000 athletes from 45 nations have gathered to compete for top honours. Reflecting on the past, I recall that the Asian Games was a significant sporting event during our childhood, widely covered by the media. It is somewhat surprising to note that, in recent times, Asiad has somewhat lost its lustre due to competing priorities.
I firmly believe that there are striking parallels between sports and business. Regular training not only hones the body but also sharpens the mind, a principle that holds immense value in the world of business. Ultimately, both business and athletic achievements are outcomes of a similar approach to daily events and decisions. Athletes and entrepreneurs share the understanding that the path to success is fraught with risks, yet they are willing to embrace these risks to achieve their goals, recognising the potential rewards they may reap. Furthermore, both domains demand a high level of endurance to prevail.
Planning is a common thread that runs through sports and entrepreneurship. In sports, training is most effective when it aligns with a specific plan and goal. Likewise, in business, meticulous planning, tracking, and plan verification serve as a means to mitigate risks. Around the world, successful enterprises and athletes operate on the principle of “no pain, no gain.” Success in any business venture or personal development demands hard work and perseverance, akin to an athlete’s journey. It is equally important to anticipate alternative scenarios in business, just as athletes prepare for unforeseen challenges.
We all recognise that impatience often leads to defeat, and momentary success cannot prepare one for significant athletic or business challenges. Each day teaches us patience and demands consistency. While time is undoubtedly valuable, let us remember that haste can lead to costly mistakes. Patience may be a bitter virtue, but its rewards are sweet.
Listening to feedback is invaluable, whether in business or sports. The insights provided by colleagues, partners, and clients can reveal hidden aspects of our performance, ultimately enhancing our results. Focus is a critical aspect shared by both arenas. Amidst rivalry and competition, maintaining focus on our initial assumptions, goals, and plans allows us to see beyond the immediate skirmishes.
Wisdom is a quality both athletes and entrepreneurs gain through their experiences. In sports, one may encounter both highs and lows, with injuries serving as painful teachers of wisdom. Similarly, in business, wisdom is cultivated by learning from the experiences of others through conversations, books, and conferences. Failure is an integral part of both domains, and it is essential to accept that not every venture will end in victory. What truly matters is the ability to derive valuable lessons from setbacks. Self-confidence and unwavering belief in oneself are indispensable qualities, as approximately 80% of success in both business and sports is attributed to one’s mindset and internal confidence.
Above all, passion is the driving force behind success. It is challenging to excel in endeavours that do not ignite our passion. In the lives of both athletes and entrepreneurs, there are days when summoning the motivation for the next step can be daunting. However, determination and self-discipline enable us to go the extra mile.
In closing, I would like to emphasise the profound lessons that team sports offer in terms of collaboration, development, and working together towards a shared goal. One of the most important lessons I have learned from both sports and business is not only how to be a gracious winner but also how to accept defeat gracefully. Winning may come easy, but it is in the face of loss that we truly learn and grow.
Sportsmanship and entrepreneurship share the same ethical and moral dimensions of life. They encompass attributes such as fair play, respect for rules and traditions, and various traits of good character, including integrity, respect for others, accountability, self-control, and grace in victory and defeat. Professionals and successful entrepreneurs exemplify these qualities in their respective fields.
As we look forward to the coming month of October, I wish each and every one of you a month filled with success, growth, and achievement.
Warm regards,
Sunil Kumar V
