Message From MD, August – 2023
01 August 2023
Dear friends,
As always, I enjoy communicating with you about matters that directly impact our business and personal growth. I believe that sharing relevant insights and reflections keeps us connected and informed.
During this month of July, many of us observe traditional Ayurveda treatments to rejuvenate our bodies and engage in the recital of the epic Ramayana to rejuvenate our minds. It is a time when Malayalis worldwide welcome the new year, focusing on cleansing, calming, and nurturing both body and mind in the month of Karkidakam. Traditionally, this period is the precursor of the Onam festival, which falls in the first month of the Malayalam calendar, Chingam. Onam is a joyous celebration of the end-of-harvest season, deeply rooted in Kerala’s agricultural heritage, where paddy fields and farmers once flourished.
For those of us at Asset, Onam has always been a time to relish the sumptuous Onasadya, a feast we dearly miss since the onset of the pandemic. However, I am delighted to share that we plan to revive this cherished tradition at all our branches this year, fostering enjoyment and togetherness. Onam offers more than just a delectable culinary experience; it is a profound message encompassing numerous virtues. It symbolises material prosperity, dharma (righteousness), and kindness. The festivities brim with enthusiasm, celebration, games, and dances, connecting us to our cultural heritage and the beauty of nature. Onam’s significance extends beyond mere rituals; it imparts profound life lessons that remain ever-relevant.
As we celebrate Onam, I extend my sincere and heartfelt wishes to all our family members. May this occasion bring joy, prosperity, and togetherness to each one of you. Happy Onam!
In the spirit of this remarkable festival, let us take a moment to learn valuable management lessons from Onam’s teachings. Onam is a celebration of togetherness, much like a boat race where every participant plays a crucial role. Similarly, our organisation thrives on the strength of our united team, with each member contributing their unique talents.
Moreover, the legend of King Mahabali imparts essential life and management lessons. His righteous rule led to prosperity, but his downfall came from succumbing to ego and greed. The power of faith and prayers was evident when Lord Vishnu incarnated as Vamana to restore balance. Mahabali’s disregard for his preceptor Shukracharya’s advice emphasises the importance of listening to our elders and teachers. When Vamana asked for a mere three steps of land, Mahabali kept his word, demonstrating the significance of integrity and fulfilling promises.
Above all, the tale of Onam teaches us that humanity triumphs in the end. Mahabali’s humility and love for his people touched Vamana’s heart, leading to his annual return to his land and the celebration of Onam.
In conclusion, let us remember these five profound lessons:
1. Power must be wielded with caution to avoid ego and greed.
2. Faith and prayers can work wonders.
3. Always show respect to your teachers and elders.
4. Keep your promises and uphold your integrity.
5. Ultimately, humanity prevails, spreading love and compassion.
As we move into the month of August, let us carry these timeless lessons with us, guiding our actions and decisions. Wishing all of you a successful and fulfilling business month ahead.
Warm regards,
Sunil Kumar V
